Oil - synthetic, organic, or blended? Empty Oil - synthetic, organic, or blended?

A friend of mine is all about synthetic oil and keeps telling me it's awesome. Just curious, what do you guys use? Can you really go 10k+ miles on one synthetic oil change?? What brands should I use?
